Dr. B. Akbar Saheb, the esteemed Founder and Chairman of Dr. Akbar Super Specialty Eye Hospitals, is a highly respected Ophthalmologist with an extraordinary career spanning six decades dedicated to advancing eye care.

He completed his MBBS from Guntur Medical College, Guntur, and pursued his MS in Ophthalmology from Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Hyderabad, under the guidance of the legendary Padmabhushan Prof. Siva Reddy.

After an illustrious tenure as an accomplished Eye Surgeon and Superintendent, Dr. Akbar retired from government service in 1996. That same year, he founded the prestigious Dr. Akbar Super Specialty Eye Hospital in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, which was inaugurated by the late Chief Minister Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy.

A highly skilled and versatile surgeon, Dr. B. Akbar Saheb has performed an extensive range of
ophthalmic procedures and made remarkable contributions to public eye health. He was deputed for
Foreign Medical Service by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and continues to be actively
involved in professional associations, serving as:

Association of India (A.P. Chapter)
Fellow of the Academy of Sciences, Andhra Pradesh

Research & Milestones

Dr. Akbar served as the Principal Investigator for the research project ‘Brown Cataract’ in
collaboration with Oakland University, U.S.A. He also made medical history by successfully
performing a rare and complex operation, ‘Chondro Sarcoma Lacrimal Bone,’ marking the first such
case in India.

He holds the distinction of being the first life member of the Eye Bank of India in the Rayalaseema
region, underscoring his lifelong commitment to advancing eye donation and transplantation.

Community Service & Humanitarian Work

Over the last nine years, Dr. Akbar Saheb has personally facilitated the collection of over 3,000 eyes
for corneal transplantation, earning national recognition for his hospital from the National Eye Bank
Association of India for exemplary contributions to eye and blood donation awareness.

He has organized more than 16,000 rural eye camps across the Anantapur district, providing access
to care for underserved communities and enabling over 75,000 successful cataract surgeries.
